When Green Ronin was first reported to be taking over the rights to the ASOIAF RPG, they said their version would NOT be a continuation of the original version. I assume that means the older RPG book is being completely replaced.

If I may,
I cold not stop thinking about the Varys being a Merling thing...and I'm still researching that.
But what about this crazy theory:

Could Varys be the third dragon head?

Could he be a Targaeryan and we don't know it? PLaced into hiding for some chance occurence? He's shaved bald...we can't see his hair. Does anyone have a description of his eyes?
His name is very similar to Daenerys, or Viserys...
He was close with the Mad King. He claims he "serves the realm". And he's clearly pro Dany. We don't really know anything about him except what he tells us...and that can't be varified. Someone help me here.
Giggidy!

Anyone got any feedback?

But didnb't Varys say let Tywin in?

Great, now I've got to spend even MORE money to feed my ASoIaF needs. They've got their hooks in me deep baby, deep.

Dork, it's called "A Game of Thrones d20"
Available at any large book store or Game store (or on the web if all else fails). However I wouldn't recommend buying it because it seems they are creating a newer version as discussed in this topic. So were I you, I'd wait for that to come out. As far as RPGs go, I don't have the inclination to type it all out at this moment so here is the address of a wiki page on the subject of Role-playing games (RPGs) that should be helpful to you.

Hello tower freinds- first time poster here!
Justin:

I had read a similar theory once a year or two ago on that Varys/third head idea. Its been done before. But people are dying to see Tyrion be a thrid head so it doent pick up momentum in its idea.

Aerys:
Welcome! However, please read Johnny's post above. We need to stay on topic in this post! So let's talk about this somewhere else! I promise we will, though I'm not sure in which thread yet!

My friend Ser Rosby has one of the earlier RPG books. It is like the first volume in a physical encyclopedia of Westeros. An awesome book for sure. Too bad I have family, work, school, reading, eating, and bathing to contend with.I loved playing RPGs once upon a time. Now I have to settle for browser games online. Poor replacement, let me tell you.

However, it was always difficult for me to find a handful of people with ten to twelve hours free to RP. Usually, once we all got together (assuming we didn't get distracted by music or the out of doors)and started to play, we would end up yelling and arguing a third of the time. Of course, we were still young...salad days...

I would love to find the time money and companions to play with now. So if anyone lives in the Atlanta, GA area and is eager to get nerdy, LET ME KNOW!!

Trying to stay on topic here, I promise.

I was just thinking, it would be great if we had someway of sharing our locations with each other and possibly meeting for a monthly game or book chattering, maybe once a month or something, provided that there are actually a few clusters of us. Of course, it is very probable that we are all so spread out as to make this moot, but it would be a nice in-site bonus! If any Johnny might be reading this...*wink*wink*nudge*nudge*

Reek, I'm probably not the best person to organize such gatherings. On the other hand, the least I could do is gauge the level and location of interest in them. So... look for that topic soon.

I've got a lot of experience DMing and playing AGoT d20 and many other games. I'd love to get together to play with some real fans, but I'm in the North West.

Reek says...

Thanks for the nod Johnny!

Like I say I am in the South East(Atlanta), but has anyone considered using something like Skype for a sort of audio campaign?

Perhaps if Roose could DM, we could gather together virtually and play using headsets? Players can't typically see the DM's dice anyway, so I don't think it would be too different. It would save on time and fuel costs, plus you would all be spared the sight of my ugly mug.

16.
6/4/2008 9:12:16 PM ET
Roose Bolton says...

Thats not a bad idea Reek. Also it would allow for privet sessions/turns with the DM and players. I can think of a million and one uses for that, namely backstabbing amongst players. ;)

Still I would like to see what everyone is rolling to prevent cheating. (Sad I know, but it's been done to me before.) However the DM could always roll for everyone if nothing else would work.

I'm in.

17.
6/4/2008 10:57:43 PM ET
Tim says...

I like the ideas of this - and yea, if DM rolled for everyone it would elimanate that fear of cheating

Rachel says...

I'm up Chicago-way, at least for the next couple of weeks, but I'll be moving soon. Alas, my job will probably keep me from participating in the RPG itself, but I'd love to hear how it goes! In the RPG, do you take on characters from AGOT, or houses, or what? How much can it diverge from the books?

Reek, I didn't know you're from Atlanta! I have some friends there who are very, very geeky, though I don't think they're into ASOIAF. Alas!

Reek - I've used frapper, which lets a group of people tag their location on a google based map. See: http://www.frappr.com/

It does require registration. If folks are interested, I could set one up later today for us. It would at least show who's where. Johnny - it might be interesting for you to see too.

21.
6/5/2008 1:24:10 PM ET
Reek says...

I have used frapper via myspace, I think that would be interesting.

Perhaps if we had some very basic sort of member profile, we would be able to contact each other w/out permanently displaying our contact info. (no pressure Johnny, just an idea...)

I also say let the DM roll the dice, it's only logical.

Rachel: I know alot of very nerdy Atlantans as well, and sadly, very few of them have read asoif. However, I am working on them. Wolf King is one of my best friends, I recently encouraged him to read the series, now he's a GRRM junkie! :D Also, oddly enough, I discovered my uncle has read asoif and he's currently reading WoT. I never knew!

Anyway, I digress, idk if anyone else has used skype, but it is very easy and free between computers. Headsets/mics are relatively cheap. Let's do it!

22.

Roose Bolton says...

Rachel: "do you take on characters from AGOT, or houses, or what? How much can it diverge from the books?"

Well if I were running the game I wouldn't allow someone to play a character pulled from the books. Unless it was a very very minor character, still probably not.

I usually set the time frame before the beginning of AGoT. So it doesn't contradict the books..

23.
6/6/2008 12:13:41 AM ET
Tim says...

I seriously think we should look into doing something like this - via a program like skype, and as Roose said - set in Westeros, with the same houses as in the books, just set obviously at a different time (maybe back with Targeryons in power)

How can we contact each other outside of ToTH to do this? Perhaps we could meet at another neutral site with a chat room or something of the ilk so that we can share info w/out making it permanently visible?

I'm fully down for this!

Ok i can set us up a site to do this, if people are keen. Until then, add me on msn if you want - ttimm70@hotmail.com. And get some ideas going on what you want the sites features - like do you just need a single chat forum or whatever

6/7/2008 3:12:29 AM ET
Roose Bolton says...

Alright, I'd gladly volunteer for DM of this game. However everyone is going to need a AGOTd20 rpg book, Skype (or whatever program we end up using) and a Mic/headset. The book can be found at any major bookseller, or download it off the web, so they can make characters and use it as reference. It's an older book and not terribly popular, so it should come cheap. If I find a place to download it I'll post that asap.

Those of you who are interested in playing can send me an email at a proxy I just made, and I'll respond with my real email account. Email me at: Boltonroose@yahoo.com

After we have all the interested people on one email list, I can send you updates as we get this thing off the ground.
We're gonna need a "talk session" so I can inform you on the setting and restrictions and hear your character concepts.

Thanks for the tip. I'll see if there's a way to tie frapper (or something similar) into Tower of the Hand's registration system.

I'm working on it. But I say that about a lot of stuff, don't I? :)

Perhaps we could meet at another neutral site with a chat room...
Reek

Should TotH.com have a chat room? It's fairly easy to add one.

Alright, I'd gladly volunteer for DM of this game.
Roose Bolton

Roose: If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. We can host files here, start a listserv, create a dedicated thread (or quasi-forum), or--at the very least--promote a project like this.

If TotH had a chat room, I think that would make it much easier to communicate and exchange info, esp if(once again) the info wasn't permanently visible.

It seems like a wonderful idea to me, although one thing to consider is that it might detract from the number of forum posts... though that might not be sooo bad... ;D

Anyone else?

Alright gang! Our first Online AGOT roleplaying session is about to start! We'll begin character creation soon. So any of you who want to hop on, email me at Roose_bolton@yahoo.com

If you miss the first game don't fear, I can always incorporate new characters (tho try to just be on time)
Or you can join in the next game!

P.S.
Dork, I don't recall anyone saying you were stupid. Just a couple of people complaining about your typing. As I recall dozens of people came to your defense. Chill.

Oh great, another thing I dont get.
I changed my typing a long time ago, and people still skip over my posts, and question if I read the book(s). So if someone doesnt call me stupid, they sure as hell try to make me feel stupid.
So I guess this is dead.

Dork, I think you're taking some of these things a little personal. You're doing fine; and it speaks well to yourself that some of the most intelligent people in here (in my opinion) are defending you.

So relax, please.

Hey dork: a piece of advice - no one likes to go to a pity party. You're welcome here and smart enough to keep up, and I give you props for changing your post style as that took some flexibility and chutzpah to respond to criticism so bravely and not just leave the board. So take it as read that you're not considered stupid and people aren't skipping your posts because they're from you, it is just because we all have other stuff going on.

I hope you'll have a few of your usual witty and assertive posts to share soon, I'll be happy to read them. But the I'm-so-stupid, I-have-nothing-to-talk-with-you-about is a drag. If I wanted that, I could go chat up an angst-ridden, average and boring teenager locally. You've read the books - you've participated in our discussions here - so keep on with that and you'll feel the love.
