External Link Video: Official Season 8 Trailer. All aboard the hype train! With just over a month to go until Game of Thrones returns with its final six episodes, HBO is finally letting us see more of the upcoming season. This week, we'll be getting a massive Entertainment Weekly issue, offering new cast photos and promising a brutal battle. And now we just got the Official Season 8 trailer.

Watch the two-minute video here:

Lots to digest in this one. What was your favorite part? Does anything offer major clues as to what's to come? We don't have that much longer to wait to find out, as Game of Thrones returns Sunday, April 14, only on HBO.

The final season begins April 14. HBO has finally announced the official start date for Game of Thrones' eighth and final season: April 14, 2019. That's only 91 days away! The official announcement came before tonight's third season premiere of True Detective. Watch the teaser video:

Here's the official press release:

Tonight a new tease for GAME OF THRONES aired on HBO which announced SUNDAY, APRIL 14 as the debut date for its six-episode, eighth and final season. As in previous seasons, the show will air at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) exclusively on HBO.

Below is a link to the tease which was directed by David Nutter, who won an Emmy in 2015 for his work on the season five finale, “Mother’s Mercy.”

The tease includes an original score by Ramin Djawadi, who won an Emmy in 2018 for his score on the season seven finale, “The Dragon and the Wolf.”

See you all in April! :)

Video: GRRM sits down with John Hodgman. Earlier this week, George R. R. Martin went out on a very brief media tour to promote his new book, Fire & Blood. One of those stops included an appearance in his home state of New Jersey. Hosted by John Hodgman, GRRM answered questions about the new book, the delay in delivering The Winds of Winter, the legacy of Game of Thrones and its prequels, and the fate of one vanishing elephant. Thanks to Esquire, we, too, can watch the full hour-plus video:

For more from GRRM about Fire & Blood, you can watch his interview with Stephen Colbert and read his interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Game of Thrones' final season to air in April 2019

At last, we know when the last season of Game of Thrones will air: April 2019. We don't yet know the exact date, though it would be fitting for the final season to begin in mid-April, just as the first season of Game of Thrones began nearly eight years ago.

In any case, we have about five months to prepare for the show's final six episodes. For their part, HBO has launched a new marketing campaign -- "For the Throne" -- to promote the show's return, starting with a few commemorative videos like the one below, a Twitter initiative, and a couple of local events, all described in the press release below.

Reigns: Game of Thrones game to launch in October

Coming this October from developers Nerial and Devolver Digital is Reigns: Game of Thrones. Reigns: Game of Thrones will be the latest entry in a series that already includes the popular and well-reviewed games Reigns and Reigns: Her Majesty. For those who are not familiar with them, the gameplay is simple. You are presented a dilemma and two options to resolve it. Swipe left to choose one option. Swipe right for the other. Neither choice is obviously right or wrong, but whatever you decide will alter the balance of power among the game's various factions. If you can't maintain that balance throughout all your decisions, your reign will come to a swift end. Honestly, this sounds like a perfect fit for the political intrigue we've come to expect from the battle for the Iron Throne. We'll have more details about the new game as well as a review as we get closer to its launch. Until then, you can watch the reveal trailer below, read the official press release, and preorder the game.

Reigns: Game of Thrones will be available in October for iOS, Android, and Steam.
