As first reported by Deadline, George R. R. Martin has signed a two-year deal with HBO. Under the new agreement, GRRM will continue to serve as a co-executive producer on Game of Thrones and presumably continue to write one script per season. GRRM will also develop and produce new series ideas for the cable network. No word yet on what these projects could be, but we can wildly speculate. Perhaps GRRM and HBO are teaming up to produce a miniseries based on the Dunk and Egg tales. Or maybe GRRM is getting another chance to make his Doorways TV show, something he's long wanted. One word of caution, though: there are no guarantees that his latest projects will reach production, let alone air, and even if they do, we may be waiting a while. Remember how many years it took to get Game of Thrones on the air? I expect GRRM will have more to say about this deal soon.
