Roast King Joffrey, a Social Media Event

12/12/2013 1:06:00 PM ET

It seems that Westeros is now in the midst of a corporate-sponsored, social media event whose aim is to "roast" King Joffrey. On Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, you'll find thousands of people posting jokes at the king's expense, mocking his quotes, and sharing videos of his worst moments. Indeed, #RoastJoffrey is already trending on Twitter.

But let's be clear. This may have started as a light-hearted attempt to promote the return of a popular television show, but comedic moments tend to escalate quickly to tragedies, especially when Joffrey is involved. So, should you think it funny to slap the king (repeatedly) or to toss taunts and cow pie at him ("shit-faced freak!"), you'd be wise to recall Tyrion's words, "We've had vicious kings and we've had idiot kings, but I don't know if we've ever been cursed with a vicious idiot for a king." Now consider what this vicious idiot king would do to you if he heard himself in one of your punchlines. In two days time, this event will be over and perhaps sanity will return. For now, be safe and remember: #RoastJoffrey #IsHighTreason.
