Elder son of King Robert Baratheon and Queen Cersei Lannister. His true father is Jaime Lannister. (AGOT 46)

King Robert betrothed him to Sansa Stark when he went north to Winterfell to name Eddard Stark Hand of the King. (AGOT 5) Sansa was devoted to him at first, until he had Eddard executed shortly after becoming king upon his father's death. (AGOT 66) After the execution, he began to treat Sansa horribly and often ordered his Kingsguard to beat her for disobedience. (AGOT 68) He subjected her to a particularly brutal beating in front of much of the court when he learned that Robb Stark had destroyed a Lannister army at Oxcross. (ACOK 33) When Stannis Baratheon assaulted King's Landing, Joffrey joined his troops on the walls and then took command of three giant trebuchet set up to defend the city. (ACOK 60) Cersei, fearing for his safety, ordered Joffrey returned to the Red Keep, causing a rout amongst his men that nearly led the city to fall before it was saved by a combined Lannister-Tyrell army. (ACOK 61, ACOK 63) After the battle, Joffrey held a court in which he named his grandfather, Lord Tywin Lannister, Hand of the King, ended his betrothal to Sansa, and became betrothed to Margaery Tyrell instead. (ACOK 66) Joffrey married Margaery on the first day of the new century, but at the wedding feast that followed, he was killed with poison. (ASOS 61)
