A sellsword.

Bronn was staying at the Old Crossroads Inn when Catelyn Stark arrested Tyrion Lannister there and heeded her call for volunteers to deliver him safely to the Vale. (AGOT 32) He became closer to Tyrion on the journey and decided to support him, not out of loyalty, but for the promise of riches and advancement. He volunteered to be Tyrion's champion in his trial by combat and succeeded in killing Ser Vardis Egen to save Tyrion's life. (AGOT 41) They were both put out on the high road, and Bronn swore allegiance to Tyrion. (AGOT 43) He remained with Tyrion and fought in the battle of the Green Fork and then accompanied Tyrion to King's Landing, where he began recruiting an army of sellswords for Tyrion. (AGOT 63, ACOK 4, ACOK 9) Tyrion also named Bronn captain of his personal guard. (ACOK 18) During Stannis Baratheon's assault on King's Landing, Bronn was placed in charge of closing Tyrion's trap for Stannis's fleet by deploying a chain across the Blackwater Rush. The operation was a success, as much of Stannis's fleet was destroyed, and Bronn was knighted for his role in the battle. (ACOK 60, ACOK 68)

After Tyrion was arrested for murdering King Joffrey Baratheon, Cersei Baratheon arranged for Bronn to marry Lady Tanda Stokeworth's daughter, Lollys, as a way of prying his loyalty away from Tyrion. (ASOS 67) When Lollys gave birth to the bastard boy conceived in the King's Landing riot, Bronn decided to name him Tyrion, which led Cersei to believe he was still in league with her brother. She therefore conspired with Falyse Stokeworth and her husband, Ser Balman Byrch, to have Bronn killed. (AFFC 25) Cersei had hoped they would have him assassinated, but Ser Balman instead challenged him to single combat, figuring that his greater skill with a lance would win the day. Instead, Bronn speared Balman's horse with his lance and then killed the trapped knight. Afterwards, he expelled Falyse and declared himself lord protector of Stokeworth. (AFFC 33)
